Emma Joy Iezzoni

Emma has spent 15 years helping organizations make good decisions about their people — through mergers, growth spurts, leadership transitions, and the occasional full-blown identity crisis.

Her career started unconventionally: early roles in marketing at the Smithsonian and on IDP reintegration programs for young women in Nairobi, Kenya gave her a lens on human systems that’s tough to teach in an MBA. From there she moved into HR consulting, eventually joining Deloitte, where she advised Fortune 500 clients on post-deal integration work totaling more than $20 billion. She also certified as an executive facilitator at the Deloitte Greenhouse, leading high-stakes organizational strategy and team dynamics sessions for C-suite teams in the middle of M&A transactions.

In 2019, she joined Vanguard to build and lead the People Analytics Consulting function. During the pandemic and the Great Resignation — not exactly a calm period in HR — her team reduced departmental burnout by 53% while driving enterprise retention strategies for critical talent. She spent the next three years leading Client Experience & Engagement for Vanguard's Wealth Management business before becoming a Professor.

Emma holds an MBA with an AI/ML specialization from Villanova University, a BA in International Economics from American University, a Business Analytics certification from Wharton, and the SHRM-SCP certification. She is a full-time faculty member in Villanova's School of Business, teaching artificial intelligence, machine learning, and programming for adaptive problem solving.

Her industry experience spans financial services, telecommunications, biotech, government, hospitality, and academia, with significant nonprofit and pro bono work alongside.

“In our work here, we see leaders who believe a structural change will fix all of their problems. Unfortunately, some issues that feel like design problems are better addressed by engaging your workforce.”
